Morning Meeting Good Morning, Today is Monday, June 8, 2020. Due to the current events happening in the world we are going to take a break from our regular lessons to talk about race, diversity, and respect. I would like you to join me today by reading books around these topics and discussing them with your parents or guardians. I am also happy to have one on one Zoom calls with students to help further discuss any topics. Read Aloud Objective: Students will listen to the story called a kids book about racism in order to understand the meaning of racism. Directions: 1. Listen to the story a kids book about racism. 2. With a parent discuss what you think the word racism means. 3. Why is being different a good thing? How can you help if you see someone being racist? Complete the worksheet below with a parent or guardian. Objective: Students will listen to the story The Day You Begin and recognize how they feel about themselves. Directions 1. Listen the story The Day You Begin 2. Discuss the following question with a parent. Have you ever walked into a room full of people who seemed different than you? How did you feel? 3. Draw a picture to illustrate how you feel about yourself. Objective: Students will determine how each person gets their skin color while listening to the story All the Colors We Are. Directions: 1. Listen to the story All the Colors We Are. 2. Discuss you skin tone with your parents. 3. Draw a picture of yourself using the skin tone. How would you describe your color? 3. Determine a fun and creative way to describe your color. Objective: Understand the meaning of empathy in order to demonstrate empathy towards others.
